Sorry it has taken so long for us to update the blog, but we have a good excuse... a baby! Sarah's due date (May 2nd) came and went, and we all eagerly awaited Sophia's arrival. Estelle came in 2 days before Sarah was due, and we all tried to keep busy, as our little girl refused to present herself. Sarah even picked up some extra shifts at work. We went for nice long walks every day. Sarah got one of her finals done early. Sarah drank red raspberry leaf tea, which she was told might help put her into labor. Nothing worked. Sarah worked all day Thursday (May 6th), with no changes. She enjoyed a great dinner with her mom and Philippa (Emma's mom), and then decided to take a bath to relax. Who knows what triggered it, but Sarah's water broke at 9:45 pm. The doctor said we should come in to the hospital, so that's what we did, although we took our time. About an hour later we arrived at Rose Medical Center, where Sarah was admitted, because, yes, it was true, her water had broken. Unfortunately Sarah was not contracting enough. Around 3am they decided to give Sarah medicine to soften her cervix because she was only 3cm dilated, and around 8 am they started the pitocin to get Sarah's contractions going. It took all day, and we had a few scares because Sophia's heart rate would drop because of something going on with the cord. Fortunately, Sophia finally arrived, at 8:09pm on May 7th. Her cord was wrapped around her neck twice, quite tightly, which explained why her heart rate kept dropping. Both mom and baby are doing wonderfully, and were able to go home on mother's day... what a great mother's day present!
Our little girl came out wide eyed and ready to eat, with a beautifully loud cry.

She was just so wide awake
